A line of wildebeest continue their march as the final minutes of light dissipate.
A March into Darkness

There’s something about dusk that draws me in.
The landscape blanketed by a soft darkness. The last of the day’s light fleeting yet also making its presence known.
The time of day where life seems to slow down.
Dusk in the Maasai Mara was no different. The day slowed. The air became crisp and refreshing. The sky softened. It was beautiful.
I had been there for 3 full days when I took this photograph, by which time I had grown much accustomed to the seemingly never ending hoards of wildebeest parading through the landscape.
But seeing this single file line at dusk struck me. As I caught sight of it, standing up in the back of our jeep as we drove home for dinner, I called on our driver to stop.
During the heat of the day, the energy of the migration felt intense. Wildebeest everywhere marched, ran, fought, deliberated, conversed — they were the definition of wild.
But in this moment, as darkness had crept over all but one small strip of land, the wildebeest marched with a soft tranquility. A quiet determination.
The day had slowed, but the migration had pushed methodically onward. And so I captured “A March into Darkness.”
