Connection is peace.

This was the moment we had come for. A moment photographers dream to shoot and wildlife enthusiasts all over the world travel to witness. The storming of the Mara River. The Great Migration in one frame.

But it all almost went terribly wrong.

We had waited two entire days for a crossing. Sitting in a Jeep on the banks of the Mara River, we watched as thousands of wildebeest and zebra deliberated the timing and precise location of their traverse, trotting both towards and away from the cliffs seemingly hundreds of times.

After days of patience, they began their decent in a fury, causing seemingly hundreds of tourist vehicles to jockey for the ideal viewing position alongside the cliffs. We were left in the rear — blind to the greatest wildlife spectacle in the world.

I couldn’t see a thing.

Devastated that I couldn't see the action and unable to exit the vehicle surrounded by wildlife, I hastily pushed myself out the window and climbed onto the roof of the jeep, desperate for any chance of a clear shot. Standing above the mass of safari vehicles, people, wildebeest and zebra, I looked down over the cliffs of the Mara River and captured this photograph.
