Can zebra feel grief?
There is a fine line between peace and loneliness. Even when you choose solitude for yourself — the loss of companionship often leaves you lost in grief. A nagging feeling some of us never shake.
This zebra, strolling through the wilderness at dusk, wandering without another animal in sight, reminded me of my own struggles with grief and loneliness.
It took me to a place of feeling left behind. Feeling like I wasn’t enough.
Feeling like I didn’t belong.
But there’s something about the scene that also gave me hope. The wide open plains of the Mara-Serengeti. The sounds of the wind brushing through the tall grass. The taste of the brisk air settling in for the night.
This zebra was free. Alone, but surrounded by beauty. Surrounded by possibility.
A straggler — left behind from the pack, but still marching onwards — over the next hill, one step before the next.
